Songwriting – Part Two

The Song-

In my last post I talked about the negativity that our brains can put on the creative process. In this post I will try to begin to break that cycle and head towards the goal of finishing a song. For good or bad the main goal is completing the song and not giving up.

For now I have no title for this song but I do have a basic progression and structure.

The chart reads from left to right with each cell being one measure.

Since I am not sure which “Part” will be the verse or what, I am not labeling them yet. Granted “Part A” feels like the verse because I started with that and began humming along. It will most likely be the verse and usually songwriters come up with a verse first. At least that’s what I have read.

The next part is to sing along and try to grab a melody with lyrics. The subject happen to pop in my mind while thinking about “not writing a song” and not liking myself for giving up all the time. That led to thinking about how I got here at this point in my life and all the things that have happened in the last few years. Alright, some vodka was in the mix. :/

It’s a start and I cant quit now, right? Besides, If you read some lyrics from your favorite bands you may find you never really listened to the words before and that they are sad or dark. Pink Floyd is what I am going after with this tune so being a little dark should be fine.

Next time, Lyrics and melody.
