The Modes

I am trying to relearn the 7 modes since I originally memorized the shapes and not the degrees. Below are the modes in major and minor groups. The actual order is: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian. Since this is mainly a blues based site I am not going to dig deep into them. Especially since they get misunderstood and there is plenty of debate about them. Personally I stick to Major and Minor and add notes for color. COuld I be playing in some mode? I dont know. If it sounds good…go with it.

Major Modes in Key of C Ionian: C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C                     1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Lydian: C-D-E-F#-G-A-B-C                  1 2 3 +4 5 6 7 8 Mixolydian: C-D-E-F-G-A-Bb-C           1 2 3 4 5 6 -7 8
